On Sunday Byron Bay will witness a convergence of great entertainment, youth mentorship and fundraising at the inaugural Spirit of the Bay all-ages one-day festival at the YAC amphitheatre.

The event is being put together by the Events Management students at the Byron Youth Activities Centre and doubles as a fundraiser for the centre, which has recently lost some of its government funding.

Headlining the event will be Wolfmother, supported by a huge lineup of both local and national artists and DJs including Nathan Kaye, Dallas James, Wandering Eyes, Rich Latimer Trio, Essie Thomas and many, many more.

Event spokesperson Elias Johnson said, ‘Spirit of the Bay will showcase not only some pretty amazingly talented musicians, but also the excellent skills of the enthusiastic young team of Event Management students, known as the Vibrant Minds Crew, who have spent months planning and producing this family friendly, all-ages, drug and alcohol-free event, essentially the first of the summer festivals for Byron Bay.’

‘The students in the Vibrant Minds Crew have been working with Byron Youth Service’s Links2Learning ‘Rock the YAC’ program facilitators, getting serious hands-on learning of exactly what the business is, of putting together major music events and festivals. This year’s event is set to be the biggest yet. Spirit of the Bay is a major fundraiser for Byron Youth Service and the YAC,’ Elias said.

Spirit of the Bay is at the Byron YAC Amphitheatre on Sunday October 19 from 10am til l10pm. The event’s presenters said they had changed the date ‘so as not to clash with Uncle Lewis’ Event Buninj Boothrum Echidna Dreaming….out of total respect!’
