All lanes of the Pacific Highway have reopened in Cooperabung, near Port Macquarie, after a fatal van and truck accident at lunchtime Monday (March 7).
Alternating (stop/slow) traffic control had been in place at Cooperabung Close while the investigation into the accident took place.
However, traffic is still heavy, especially northbound, which is queued back four kilometres. Southbound traffic is queued back three kilometres.
Motorists are advised to allow additional travel time and expect delays as traffic returns to normal in the area.
Motorists should also exercise caution as traffic crews are continuing the clean-up and recovery on the side of the road.
Original report: Around 1.05pm, emergency services were called to a section of the Pacific Highway at Cooperabung, north of Port Macquarie, after a Mazda van and a truck collided head-on.
The man driving the Mazda, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead upon the arrival of emergency services.
The male truck driver was uninjured but was taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing. He was the only person travelling in that vehicle at the time of the crash.
Initial inquiries indicate the southbound Mazda crossed into the northbound lanes where it collided with the truck.
The northbound lanes are currently closed, with a contraflow in place.
