The success of young golfer Conor Whitelock has been one highlight at the Byron Bay Golf Club as it prepares for the Australian Legends Tour Championship this weekend.
Conor is just 14 years old and recently won the A-Reserve Grade at the club, according to BBCG pro Greg Stewart.
‘Conor has really had a break through year with this being his second Championship win of the year,’ he said.
In late November the club also hosted the Byron Bay Public School Fundraiser Golf Day.
The format was a four-person Ambrose where golfers of all abilities got to enjoy the course, Greg said.
The school P and C was the driving force behind the event and was grateful for the ongoing support from the local business community for provided so many prizes.
But local golfers are now concentrating on the tenth consecutive Australian Legends Tour Championship hosted by the BBGC, which is played over three days starting this Friday.
The first two days are in a Pro-Am format and on the last day the professionals are joined by a hand full of scratch handicap amateurs.
‘We have had great support over the years from some iconic Australian professionals and this year is no exception. Peter Senior is scheduled to compete along with defending champion Tod Power.
‘It is a real tribute to all involved that we have been able to keep running this every year, for 10 years,’ he said.
The 100 playing spots have all been filled.
Tee off times for the first two days start at 6.51am and go through to 1.36pm.
Sunday tee times will have the leading players starting at approximately 11.30 am.
Spectators are more than welcome and entry is free.
‘Come along and walk the fairways with some of Australia’s best senior professionals,’ Greg said.
