The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter was tasked to the Girard State Forest, east of Tenterfield, on Sunday following reports of an emergency distress beacon (EPIRB) being activated in the area .
Initial information was that EPIRB was registered to a trail biking group operating in the area.
After a short search, the trail bike group was located. A 32-year-old male member of the group had serious received leg injuries after colliding with a tree at speed.
Due to the heavily wooded and steep terrain, the helicopter medical team was winched down.
The helicopter medical crew, assisted by an Ambulance Paramedic from Tenterfield, treated the patient at the site.
He was then taken by road ambulance to Drake, where the helicopter picked up the patient and transported him to Lismore Base Hospital in a stable condition.
