A Goonellabah man who allegedly got his 13-year-old daughter drunk and stoned before sexually and indecently assaulting her last year remains behind bars.
The 40-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was represented by solicitor Hugh Van-Dugteren at Lismore Local Court this week after his appearance from prison via videolink was cancelled.
Following complaints to police by the girl, an investigation was launched and the man was arrested on June 30 this year by detectives from the Ballina Child Abuse Squad.
He was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault, indecent assault of a person under 16, inciting aggravated indecency and causing a person to take an intoxicating substance with the intent to commit an indictable offence.
It is alleged between September 28 and October 3, the man gave his daughter several cans of premixed Jim Beam and vodka and lemonade, and she smoked cannabis through a bong.
‘If you let me me pour grog on your tits and let me suck your tits,’ the man allegedly said.
‘No’ the girl said immediately, refusing his advances.
On another occasion, it is alleged the man and the girl drank a four pack of premixed raspberry and vodka and a six pack of Smirnoff Ice before he allegedly had sex with her without her consent.
The court heard the brief of evidence against the man had been served on the defence, but he recently changed his lawyer.
Mr Van Dugteren told the court his client intended to apply for bail at his next appearance.
Magistrate David Heilpern adjourned the man’s matters until September 19, when it is anticipated he will be committed to stand trial.
