The-Bird

The Bird’s Simon Durrington spoke with The Echo ahead of their performance at Island Vibe this weekend.

Whom are you looking forward to seeing at Island Vibe?

The Bird is good friends with Mista Savona. We’re are in full support of his new project. Cuban Jamaican fusion is sounding great.

What is unique about the festival?

It’s hard to go wrong with a festival on an island. It’s a separate landmass that enables the punter to separate from their day-to-day life. It’s on special land as well.

What have you been working on lately?

We’ve been in Europe working on other projects, which has been refreshing. However, the most recent thing we did was a recording session in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

How do you like an audience to engage with your gig?

Drummer Ben Walsh is the frontman and always hypes the audience on the mic while drumming. It always has a positive effect. It’s a process of engaging the audience in a way that reminds them to dance, and dance a lot. After all, who doesn’t like dancing? Not many.

What should we expect for your festival show?

Uptempo, live and dancefloor! Get ready!

Catch The Bird and a whole lot more at Island Vibe at North Stradbroke, Thursday till Sunday. Program and tickets on the website at islandvibe.com.au.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
