Kevin Gates, Lennox Head
Surely common sense will prevail and the proposed 3.6 million-tonne sand mine on Newrybar Swap Road at Lennox Head will be rejected.
The roads won’t cope, it’s environmentally disastrous and has no demonstrable benefit to the community.
Lennox Head is a unique and beautiful part of Australia’s east coast that is our responsibility to protect.
Without significant local resistance and protest, the risk of this mine going ahead is real. If anyone needs proof of the lasting and ugly scars left behind by large-scale sand mining take a look at the once-beautiful Kurnell Sand Hills when you fly in to Sydney.
This has to be stopped.
