Sue McLeod, Myocum

Following comments made by Jim Rose, (Letters, 15 July), re ABC funding, how would he respond to this statement? ‘Coalition gives another $10m to Foxtel to boost women’s sport on TV… Handout brings to $40m the amount Murdoch’s subscription service has received since 2017, and comes as government slashes ABC funding by $84m’ (Guardian, 22 July).

Or will he claim that these annual donations are purely in the interest of promoting women’s sport, and nothing to do with News Corp’s favourable political coverage of the coalition’s government policies?

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Agree wholeheartedly, Sue, this donation to a corporate entity was outrageous. Look for a palatable reason – that you don’t give a stuff about – to give a handout while starving the media outlet that already does the most for the cause.

But no doubt Foxtel earned the money 😂

  2. Favourable Sue !! Its not hard !!”everyone is doing it
Tough and most at the National Broadcaster
Are certainly not going without Sue .. paid
Every week ..unlike millions of Australians
Who have lost there employment. Anyone would think they have lost all Taxpayer dollars!!
Sue unless you have not been in this Country
The ABCS treatment of anyone remotely
Conservative is appalling !! Just look what happened to Ms Flint by a ABC reporter even the
Progressives called this out. the Greens , the Guardian, absolutely disrespectful..
Favourable political coverage Sue … the ABC are conservative free zones by most accounts .
    Impartial ?? Absolutely not !! TAXPAYER’S
Have had enough.. the ABC should heed the advice
Or actual cuts will follow and how !!

  3. Let up, Barrow. You are correct on one thing, though.
Tax payers have had enough. Enough of ‘bought’
friends in the media. People being treated like swine
[as the saying goes]. The blathering noise of nothing.
I agree – the money tree donation’s another ‘look at
me’; aint I a leader who supports women & Foxtel.
Yeah, the Murdoch Empire needs the money & one
good turn deserves another. Respect is respect
stands as something to be earned. No free ‘gifts’
