Paul Gannon, Coopers Shoot
It is rather ironic that the most sought after commodity in Byron, ie real estate, has become the reason for our ‘downfall’; I meant to say ‘lockdown’. We’ve got the real estate, and Gladys’ rules allowed the ’rona out to come and get us, while supposedly looking for real estate.
There are no easy answers to rocketing real estate or rolling ’rona. It may also be difficult to turn the world from the path that is accelerating climate change. But to maintain the status quo is surely a recipe for ultimate disaster on all of the above fronts.
Our conservative state and federal governments have vested interests in maintaining the status quo. Their ultimate belief is in the rigged, and so-called ‘competitive’ market place, or the ‘magical’ religious place (a view held by our prime minister) and they have ‘locked us in’ [to those belief systems]. It has taken away from us the opportunity to control our own destiny. God helps those who help themselves. God help us to do exactly that by voting out our inept and hamstrung conservative leaders at the next election.
