NSW Police say they arrested a man on outstanding warrants in Gonnellabah earlier this week and that he has been refused bail and will appear in court next year.
Police say that at about 2.45pm last Tuesday (27 December), staff attached to Richmond Police District were patrolling Ballina Road, Goonellabah, when they recognised a man wanted on two outstanding warrants.
On approach the man ran from the scene and officers followed on foot, chasing the man through several residential properties before he was stopped and arrested for the outstanding warrants.
A search of the man revealed a firearm strapped to his ankle with clothing and a kitchen knife in the pocket of his pants.
The 46-year-old man from Goonellabah was charged with six offences including possess unregistered unauthorised pistol in public place, not keep firearm safely – pistol, custody of knife in public place, and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.
The two outstanding warrants were also executed.
The man was refused bail to appear before Lismore Local Court on Monday 9 January 2023.
26 years and those gun laws are still just as effective as ever.
