Nats MP calls for engineering solutions to flood events

With a report released by CSIRO outlining how future flood levels can be reduced through hydrodynamic modelling, federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan (Nationals) is calling on Labor to act.

The past week saw some intense rain in the Byron Shire. Council has a large deposit of fill near Marshalls Creek; the rain would no doubt have seeped fill into the creek; thus undermining the ‘rights of nature’ and the sensitive ecology that defines Marshalls Creek, and indeed all adjoining waterways.

The community deserve an update on this current reckless situation, as by defying its own policies Council is displaying poor governance and disregard of our democratic rights, indeed the rights of all sentient beings. Could the four councillors who voted against the removal of this pile of fill please inform the public of the current situation of the creek? This situation presents as environmental vandalism. Simply: ‘Is the creek singing or choking?’
