When asked about the Voice referendum, Aboriginal performance artist and blogger, Briggs, summed it up pretty concisely: ‘Why would you vote “No”? We’re already in “No”!’
This is what ‘No’ looks like. Incarceration through the roof, with one in three of all prisoners Aboriginal. Wasted allocations for Aboriginal housing. Chronic health and nutritional issues with three times the diabetes rate of non-Aboriginal Australians. A life expectancy ten years less than other Australians.
Having a say on all these matters from the people most affected can dramatically improve outcomes.
If voting ‘No’ just means more of the same, surely we can do better than this?
