New South Wales Police say a man has been charged following an investigation into two public-place shootings at Ballina last month.

Officers from Richmond Police District commenced an investigation after a shot was fired in River Street, West Ballina, about 6.30am on Tuesday 15 August.

At about 4.55pm on Wednesday 16 August 2023, police were called to Kerr Street, Ballina, following reports of another gunshot.

Police will allege in court that two men were arguing when one of the men produced a firearm and discharged it, before both men fled the scene.

No reports of injuries have been made to police.

Following extensive inquiries, police executed a search warrant at a home on Westland Drive, West Ballina, on Thursday 17 August 2023.

During the search, police located a firearm which was seized to undergo forensic examination.

Following further inquiries, a 32-year-old man was arrested at a property on Kalinga Street, West Ballina, earlier today (Friday 1 September).

He was taken to Ballina Police Station where he was charged with three counts of possess shortened firearm without authority, two counts of fire firearm in or near public place, and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic).

He was refused bail to appear before Lismore Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 2 September 2023).
