Good news for conspiracy theorists. A network of organisations has been exposed which is threatening our personal freedoms, subverting public discussion and concentrating control in the hands of a few powerful players.
The bad news for those believers is that the network does not include the UN, WHO, the ABC or the myriad of other organisations supposedly conspiring to take control of our lives, bodies and freedoms.
The network is the secretive ‘Atlas Network’ and counts as members, most far-right libertarian think tanks, including Advance Australia, and is sponsored by mining companies, banks, the ultra-rich and other elites fearful of losing their grip on power. Formed after the war to counter the encroachment of the welfare state and the environmental movement, members of the Atlas Network have injected misinformation and biased research into public debate in favour of their self-interests ever since. Using ‘independent’ research they have subverted public discussion on any topic which tries to undermine their stranglehold on society, from climate change to the Voice.
John Howard was the first politician to take advantage of the Atlas Network’s considerable largesse and reach, and it’s been downhill ever since.
For more on the Atlas Network it’s worth listening to Phillip Adams’ podcast talking to Dr Jeremy Walker.
