On behalf of our members and the hundreds of Northern NSW timber workers and their families the CFMEU Qld/NT Division applauds the Federal Court’s decision to dismiss the North East Forest Alliance (NEFA) claim. Had it been successful it would have presented the Minns government with a golden opportunity to follow the Victoria and WA model and cease logging hardwood in state forests, but also would have enabled the government to shed the blame elsewhere.
Labor voters in NSW are sick to death of the party pandering to environmental extremists who conduct themselves like some sort of green Taliban.
It’s time The Echo acknowledged that we can’t all be fire-twirlers and circus performers, and consumers want to be able to source quality Australian hardwood that’s sustainably sourced both locally and responsibly from the 12 per cent of NSW state forest it’s allowed to access.

For four decades The Echo has printed the stories some people loved, some people hated, and some pretended not to read. If you want us to keep telling the truth, the real truth, not the sugar-coated version. We’ll need your support to keep the presses rolling.
