For the second year running the Cudgen Headland SLSC had to settle for second place in the NSW Country Surf Championships behind the hosts Warilla-Barrack Point, while Byron Bay came home with fifth place.

The host club on the south coast had strong numbers and their win (1,396 competition points) came on the back of almost 200 individual and team medals.

Cudgen headland finished on 1,244 points from a total field of 31 clubs.

Yamba came third on 378 points ahead of Broulee Surfers (317) and Byron Bay (316).

Joanne Kay was a multi-medal winner for Byron Bay, winning the 50-59 female beach flags and board race.

The Byron Bay B Team of Karen Irwin and Matthew Yopp won the 30+ mixed double ski.

Other Byron successes included: Daniela Berti Carrabs winning the U/17 female ski, Delilah Warton winning the U/13 female sprints and flags and coming second in the board race, Tommy Pockley taking second in the U/13 board race with Otto Maiden coming third, Will Schmid winning the U/14 2km run, and Charlie Isaacson winning the U/9 flags and coming second in sprints.

The U/9 swim relay team of Orlando Blandford, Remy Round, Hazel Tutt and Izaria Yopp collected bronze.

Lennox Head

Lennox Head came 13th on the back of some strong individual efforts.

Billy Stewart cleaned up the U/12 category – winning the male surf (swim) race, board race, iron, 1km beach run and was part of the club’s junior cameron relay winning team (U11/U12).

Amy Roberts of Lennox was also part of the U11/U12 junior cameron relay winning team, and she had two other wins; the U/12 female board race and the U11/U12 junior female board rescue.
