The Lismore Bilby Discovery Adventure is a unique Easter celebration inviting families to join in during the lead up to Easter.

Lismore City Council (LCC) has joined with local shops across Lismore, East Lismore, South Lismore, North Lismore and Goonellabah to create the Bilby Discovery Adventure that offers a fun-filled journey of exploration and education for children and their guardians.

Participants are encouraged to seek out ten hidden Bilbies, each accompanied by fascinating facts about these adorable creatures.

The bilby is on the threatened species list. https://www.acf.org.au

The Bilby is the Australian version of the Easter Bunny and is currently on the endangered list  in Queensland and listed as vulnerable nationally with less than 10,000 alive in the wild. While bilbies once happily called 70 per cent of Australia home they are now one of Australia’s most at-risk animals with only 20 per cent of their former habitat remaining.

These extraordinary little creatures dig complex burrows up to two metres deep and can shift more than 1.5 tonnes of soil per kilogram of body mass in a single year.

Get the adventure sheet

To begin your bilby adventure you can pick up a Bilby Discovery Easter Activity booklet from any of the local library locations situated at:

  • Lismore Children’s Library, upstairs at Lismore Central Shopping Centre
  • Lismore Pop-Up Library at 146 Molesworth Street, Lismore
  • Goonellabah Library at 27 Oliver Avenue, Goonellabah

Then it is off to find your bilbies hidden in shop windows throughout Lismore and Goonellabah. Participants are encouraged to seek out 10 hidden Bilbies, each accompanied by fascinating facts about these adorable creatures and return the completed sheet by Wednesday, 3 April to claim your prize.

‘It’s so much fun to find the Bilbies hiding amongst the fantastic treasures and treats offered in different stores while enjoying quality time participating in kid’s activities, shopping and eating here in Lismore,’ said Kathryn Gray, Lismore City Council’s CBD Activation Officer.

‘Lismore City Council is thrilled to offer this engaging and educational activity to our community which is a fantastic way to explore Lismore, learn about wildlife and enjoy the Easter season together,’ said Lismore Mayor, Steve Kreig.
