Man dies in hospital following an E-bike crash – Byron Bay

Yes, it would be great to come out and play and romp around naked on the beach.

The freedom of swimming butt-naked is a joy – I’m the first to agree.  But that is only part of the truth at Tyagarah Nature Reserve.

David Heilpern gives a rosy picture of his experience of naturism. Stark naked people; unclothed men; women and children basking in their birthday suits. In an ideal world that would be wonderful, but the realities of Tyagarah are very different.

Imagine going for a swim at the ti-tree lakes and being abused for interrupting a bloke on his knees giving his mate a blow job – not fun; walking or jogging to the beach and being harassed by blokes trying to pick you up – not fun; or taking your teenage daughters to the beach for a swim only to have blokes expose themselves inappropriately – not ideal; sit on an almost deserted beach and have a bloke come and sit centimetres away pestering you – not relaxing.

Freedom has to go both ways. If naturists want a place to play then put it in a more public place where there is some control over unacceptable sex pests, not in an isolated beach where men, women and children have no protection.

We deserve the freedom to go to the beach or the ti-tree lakes without being harassed, to relax and enjoy nature too.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Thanks Gwen.
So you want to remove the clothing optional status of a small section of the beach? Once this is done you then will not have any issues?

Ti tree lakes hasn’t been clothing optional for years. Any changes?

If the beach status is removed it will become more isolated without the genuine nudists not being around. We have had ZERO incidents in the area for years.

  2. Most people do the right thing , its only a very small minority who ruin it for others ,
Should we close all the pubs in AUS because some people get violent when drunk ?

Why not close the lake , and leave the beach for genuine naturists ?
