A body has been found by volunteer searchers one kilometre from where missing Mullumbimby man Gage Wilson’s crashed car was discovered.
Mr Wilson’s family have released a statement to social media saying the body has been sent to Newcastle for a forensic autopsy and DNA testing to confirm the identity of the dead person.
The family have asked the community not to indulge in speculation and unfounded rumours as this would be disrespectful to the family ‘and especially to Gage’.

They wish to thank everyone who has participated in the search, shed tears and invested time to help find Mr Wilson.
‘It is a very sad time for us.’
Police statement
NSW Police have provided this statement to The Echo about the situation:
‘About midday on Sunday 4 August 2024, police were called to a property on Left Bank Road, Mullumbimby, following reports human skeletal remains had been located.
‘Formal identification is yet to take place, with forensic examination underway to determine the identity of the remains.
‘Once complete, a report will be prepared for the Coroner.’
