Doug Layton is running Ward A in Kyogle Council.

I was born and raised in Kyogle and I have not had any good experiences living in large cities and I have lived most of my life in towns rather than cities. Plus I enjoy the clean air and closeness with our forests.

Why are you putting your hand up for the Kyogle Council?

People usually complain about all politicians therefore if you think you may be able to do better put you and up.

What relevant skills or experience do you bring to the position?

I am not sure if my skills from my occupation as a metallurgist can bring much to council, but I am willing to listen and learn and add my thoughts to all stages of council business.

What do you see as Kyogle’s role in the regional housing crisis?

Unfortunately, our infrastructure cannot support a rapid increase in housing as both sewer and water would need major upgrades.

Do you think there is a role for local councillors beyond roads, rates and rubbish? If so, what is it?

Councils do do more than that – there is the upkeep of parks, roadside managing and in our case supply of water and removal of sewage.

Other council owned or managed properties also need to be maintained such as the Kyogle Seniors Centre the local swimming pools and the KMI hall.
