About 11am (Friday, 8 November, 2024), emergency services were called to a shopping centre on Minjungbal Drive, Tweed Heads South, following reports of a robbery.
At the scene, police were told that a man allegedly entered a shop with a small spray bottle before spraying fuel onto the counter of the shop, demanding jewellery.
The man allegedly fled the store with jewellery and cash.
No fire was lit, and no injuries have been reported.
A man was arrested a short time later on Minjungbal Drive as he attempted to enter a vehicle, which is believed to contain the jewellery and cash.
The man has been taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he is assisting police with their inquiries.
The vehicle, a red Hyundai i30 hatchback with a QLD registration plate, was last seen heading west along Machinery Drive.
Two crime scenes have been declared in the shopping centre and inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
