The essential role of emergency services were pulled to the forefront of everyone’s awareness during the unprecedented 2022 floods.
While the police and ambulance services are paid roles many emergency responders such as the SES (State Emergency SErvices) and the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) are coulntary organisations that are made up of community members who give their time to get trained and resond for free.

This weeked Tweed’s emergency response services will come together for the Emergency Services Expo, taking place at Jack Evans Boat Harbour on Saturday, 31 May from 10am to 3pm.
This free, action-packed event is a chance for our community to learn how emergency services work together to prepare, respond and recover from disasters.
Mayor of Tweed Shire Chris Cherry emphasised the importance of the expo in strengthening community resilience, particularly after the devastating 2022 floods and more recently, Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
‘These disasters have shown us how vital it is to be informed, aware and prepared to face disasters,’ Cr Cherry said.
‘Getting to know our emergency responders, watching them in action, and learning how we can all do our part in disaster preparedness will help make Tweed a safer, more resilient community.’
Attendees will have the chance to:
- Meet their local heroes – including SES, Police, Ambulance, Firefighters, Marine Rescue, Surf Lifesaving, Red Cross and more.
- Watch live emergency demonstrations – see how teams respond in crisis situations.
- Explore emergency vehicles and equipment – get up close to fire trucks, rescue boats, all-terrain vehicles and high-tech response tools.
- Learn how to be disaster-ready – discover practical steps to improve personal and community resilient.
No registration is required for this informative and fun-filled day. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to show support for our frontline heroes and learn how to be better prepared for emergencies.
