A repeat drink-driving offender was caught driving in the Tweed Byron Police District without their court-ordered alcohol interlock device fitted, officers said last week.
The traffic offence was one of multiple reported by local police in the week ending Wednesday 3 December, ranging from driving on a suspended licence to police pursuits.
Traffic offences accounted for most local arrests in the district last week and were listed against 31 of 53 alleged offenders.
Two local police chases in a week
Police said they charged four people for driving whilst disqualified and that that two of them were repeat offenders.
One did not have their court-ordered alcohol interlock device fitted.
Another five people were charged for driving whilst on a suspended driver licence.
Police said they charged six people for drink-driving and six people for driving under the influence of drugs, with all six drug-driving offenders described as repeat offenders.
Four charges were reported in relation to police chases, including two for failing to stop.
Five people arrested for assaulting police in Tweed/Byron
Other local arrests last week included ten people charged with shoplifting and two people charged with breaking, entering and stealing.
Two people were charged with drug supply.
Police said they charged nine people for assaults that didn’t relate to domestic violence, including five for assaulting police and one for affray.
Last week’s listed arrests represented a recent record for the worse in terms of local domestic violence, at more than a third of all arrests recorded at Byron Bay and Tweed police stations.
