
The Cudgen Hornets won the Far North Coast Cricket first grade T20 competition after winning the final against the Casino Cavaliers last Sunday afternoon at Fripp Oval in Ballina.
Undefeated
Going into the finals weekend Cudgen looked to be the in form team of the competition after going through six preliminary rounds undefeated.
In the final Casino batted first and posted 119, but Cudgen were able to reach the total with 15 balls to spare and finished on 3/122.
Cudgen captain Alec Williams made an unbeaten 61 to steer his side home.
Semi-finals
Casino made it through to the final after beating Alstonville in the semi-final earlier in the day.
In that game Casino won the toss and elected to bat and went on to score 3/140 off their 20 overs. In reply Alstonville were bowled out for 123 in their final over.
Joshua Harris was the pick of the Casino bowlers picking up 5/29 off just four overs.
Cudgen won their semi-final against Tintenbar East Ballina after electing to bat and scoring 5/169 with opener Caleb Ziebel doing a fair bit of the damage after he scored 73 off 43 balls.
In reply Tintenbar East Ballina couldn’t get any traction in the middle order and were bowled out for 101 in 18 overs.
Casino’s Jimmy Rosser took 4/25 off four overs.
