A police officer has been charged following a crash in Casuarina late last year.
NSW police said in a statement, ‘A marked police vehicle was patrolling the Casuarina area about 4pm on Friday 3 October 2025, when the officer attempted to stop a teenager bicycle rider on Grand Parade’.
‘During the attempted stop, the police vehicle allegedly drove up onto the nearby footpath before the bike and the police vehicle collided.
‘The rider – a 14-year-old boy – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for non-life-threatening injuries.
‘Police commenced an investigation into the crash.
‘Following inquiries, a 32-year-old male senior constable attached to the Northern Region was issued with a court attendance notice for negligent driving (on Wednesday 18 March).
‘He is due to appear at Byron Bay Local Court on Monday 11 May 2026.
‘The officer’s employment status is under review, and he remains in the workplace on restricted duties’, police said.
