Lennox headland tree planting day this Friday

Ballina Shire Council, GeoLINK and Rous Council are inviting the community to roll up their sleeves and help restore the iconic Lennox Headland, at the 21st Lennox Head Community Tree Planting Day on Friday 5 June.

Officers say they charged 56 people across Tweed Byron PD with a combined 88 criminal offences. Yet again, nearly a third relate to domestic violence.

Domestic Violence (DV)

In a statement they said as for Domestic Violence (DV), 15 people were charged with 28 domestic violence related offences, including:

• Seven charges for assault.

• Seven charges for stalking/intimidation.

• Five charges for contravening apprehended violence orders.

• Four charges for destroying property.

• Three charges for intentionally sexually touch child under 10 years.

• One charge for intentionally choking.

Traffic related offences

Traffic: 31 charges for traffic related offences, some persons for multiple offences, with more major offences including:

• Nine charges for driving under the influence of drugs.

• Six charges for using unregistered and uninsured motor vehicles.

• Four charges for driving whilst disqualified.

• Two charges for driving whilst suspended.

• Two charges for driving with a prescribed concentration of alcohol.

• One charge for a failing to stop for Police.

• One charge for a burnout.

Property: six charges for property offences, some for multiple offences, including:

• One charge for break/enter and steal.

• Two charges for larceny and fraud.

• Two charges for possessing goods suspected of being stolen and receiving property stolen outside NSW.

• One charge for possessing stolen number plates.

Drugs: 11 charges for possessing drugs, including:

• Six charges for cultivating prohibited drugs.

• Three charges for possessing prohibited drugs.

• Two charges for possessing restricted substances.

‘Significant Arrests:

‘A 31-year-old male from Tweed Heads South charged by Child Abuse Investigators with multiple counts of allegedly intentionally sexually touching a child under 10 years of age. He remains bail refused to next appear at the Lismore Local Court on 8 April 2026.

‘A 45-year-old male from Banora Point charged with allegedly possessing child abuse material. He was bail refused by Police and given conditional bail by the Parramatta Bail Court to next appear at the Tweed Heads Local Court on 30 March 2026.

‘A 65-year-old male from Brays Creek was charged with cultivating 176 cannabis plants. He is due to appear at the Murwillumbah Local Court on 22 April 2026.

‘A 53-year-old male from Banora Point was charged with allegedly riding a high powered non-compliant electric bicycle in Chinderah. He was charged also for the unregistered and uninsured bicycle, riding without a helmet, and riding whilst having a disqualified driver’s licence. He is due to appear at the Tweed Heads Local Court on 30 March 2026.

‘A 42-year-old male from Upper Coomera QLD has been charged with alleged unauthorised possession of two firearms at Tyagarah. He is due to appear at the Byron Bay Local Court on 11 May 2026.

Court outcomes:

‘A 27-year-old male from Tweed Heads was arrested and charged on 14 March 2026 after committing serious acts of domestic violence against his pregnant partner, including by attempting to strike her with a metal bar. He was charged with Common Assault (DV), Intimidation (DV), and armed with intent to commit an indictable offence. He was refused bail by Police and appeared at Tweed Heads Local Court on 16 March 2026 where he plead guilty to the offences. He was convicted and sentenced to 18 months full time imprisonment with a non-parole period of 6 months.

‘A 27-year-old male was arrested and charged on 16 January 2026 with breaking and entering a residence in Tweed Heads South on 17 October 2025. He had male attended a residential property in Tweed Heads South and utilised a crowbar to force entry into the unoccupied house, in the process damaging the front door. He used the shower facilities before ransacking the house and leaving with various tools, to the value of $2,000. He was later arrested nearby for unrelated matters. The clothing he wore, along with doorbell camera footage, and fingerprints linked him to the crime scene. On 16 March 2026, he was convicted at Tweed Heads Local Court and sentenced to 18 months full time imprisonment with a non-parole period of three months.

‘Police actions:

‘You would have seen our previous post about Byron Bay officers involved in the rescue of French Tourists at Little Wategos Beach on 17 March 2026. They will be suitably recognised by the Police Force for their respective actions.

‘Further, to this, on 13 March 2026, Police and NSW Fire Brigade responded to an apartment fire in Boomerang Street, Kingscliff. and assisted in evacuating multiple occupants. The apartment was destroyed with the roof collapsing. Great collaborative work by emergency services’ they said.
