Drug & Firearm Squad detectives say they have charged a Tweed Heads man with alleged firearm offences under Strike Force Temarang.
In a media release they say, ‘Strike Force Temarang was established by State Crime Command’s Drug & Firearms Squad into the importation and manufacture of 3D printed firearms and firearm parts, 3D computer aided designed software, and other privately manufactured firearms’.
‘It is a collaborative effort involving commonwealth partners including the Department of Home Affairs Firearms Intelligence and Targeting Team (FITT) and the Australian Federal Police Forensic Intelligence (FORINT).\
‘About 6.40am on Monday 23 March, strike force detectives executed a search warrant in Tweed Heads.
‘During the search, police located unregistered rifles, a large amount of ammunition and a 3D printer.
‘A 43-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of possess unauthorised firearm, two counts of possess unauthorised pistol, two counts of possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, one count of possess digital blueprint for manufacture of firearms and one count of holder of Category A or B licence not have approved storage.
They say he man was refused bail and appeared in Local Court on Tuesday 24 March.
