Ballina man Tyran Delaney

Financial support is being sought to assist the family of Ballina man Tyran Delaney, best known as Bluey, who is recovering after being involved in a devastating hit-and-run accident on March 20.

Chloe Delaney has set up a Gofundme campaign to help her uncle.

She writes, ‘Bluey was placed into an induced coma, and for days our family lived with the uncertainty of what the outcome would be’.

This week, Bluey has finally woken from the coma, which is an incredibly positive step forward in his recovery. However, he still has a very long and difficult road ahead.

‘Bluey has suffered life-changing injuries. He has sadly lost his left eye, his left arm has been shattered and requires multiple surgeries, and he has multiple broken ribs, plus many more injuries. Once his body is strong enough, he will face several more major surgeries as part of a long recovery process.

‘Doctors have told us that his recovery could take 6–12+ months, and the effects of these injuries will be lifelong.

‘As a family, we are doing everything we can to support him while hoping for the best possible outcome.

‘Bluey’s daughter Sinead, who is his whole world, has been by his side through all of this. She has had to take time away from work to be there with him in the hospital while also trying to manage everyday life during this incredibly difficult time.

‘One of our biggest priorities right now is helping Sinead get back on her feet so she can continue visiting her dad as often as possible and return to work when she is able to.

‘We are hoping to raise funds to help purchase a reliable car for Sinead, allowing her to travel to and from the hospital and continue supporting Bluey through his recovery.

‘Bluey is the kind of bloke who would do anything for the people he loves. He has always been the person who shows up when someone needs help, and he has a huge heart for his family and friends.

‘His daughter means absolutely everything to him.

‘We understand that times are tough for many people right now, but any donation will help ease the financial strain on Bluey and Sinead while they face the long road ahead.

‘Our family is incredibly grateful for every message, prayer, and kind thought we have received over the past few weeks. The support from our community during such a heartbreaking time has meant more than we can put into words.

‘If anyone has the strength to fight through something like this, it’s Bluey.

We know that when he gets through this, he’ll be back telling his stories and making everyone laugh again.

‘Thank you so much for your support’ she adds.
