We know times are tough right now: the world’s gone tits up, it’s cold, and the forecast has more rain on the way. Well, to get us out of the doldrums, Brunswick Picture House has the perfect tonic to help warm your bits, and cast away the winter doldrums – the return of Bruns Does Winter Burlesque!
It’s now become an annual winter tradition, where their stage comes alive with some old school, razzle-dazzle entertainment and some of the absolute best in the burlesque biz, guaranteed. And on MC duties, the Picture House is welcoming back the Prince of Polyester himself, Bob Downe. A comedy icon for decades and still funny as f*ck.
So dust off that fancy shirt, slip into your shiniest heels, leave the kids at home and come nestle into their burlesque bosom. Showgirls and sequins, mulled wine and hot soup, and plenty of winter warmers for a spectacular night out you’ll be banging on about for weeks.
Now where else can you do that in the Shire? On now until Sunday, 19 July.
Tonight, Wednesday, 8 July, sees the return of Australia’s champion of cheerful comedy, Kirsty Webeck, after a huge 2025 Australian tour and a big run on ABC’s Guy Montgomery’s Guy Mont-Spelling Bee. If you’re looking for comedy that’s smart, warm and genuinely funny without being mean-spirited or cynical, Kirsty is a must-see.
Finally, treat your kids to some all-ages fun and distraction these school holidays. This weekend, the Picture House has a world premiere with the brand-new magic and juggling show from the Shire’s own Yoav and Tal Shemesh, Two Truths and a Lie on Saturday, and next weekend, the funtastic family-friendly circus extravaganza Lil’ Cheeky lights up the stage on Sunday, 18 July.
