Residents and staff at George’s Cottages in Byron Bay celebrated George Feros’s 123rd birthday on 16 September.

George Feros was the driving force behind building the aged care facility in Byron Bay and was a well-known figure who road the streets with a collection box encouraging everyone to donate.

‘We marked the occasion with a special morning tea and birthday cake, while remembering the man whose generosity and determination helped create a lasting legacy for older people in Byron Bay,’ said Gemma Ambrose who runs the centre’s Leisure and Lifestyle program.

Celebration

‘As part of the celebration, I read a short tribute titled “The Man on the Bicycle: A Thank you to George Feros” to our residents. The tribute reflects on George riding through Byron Bay with his collection box and bell, raising money to establish a home for the community’s older people, and thanks him for the legacy that continues today through George’s Cottages and The Lodge.’
