Police have arrested a man they say punched another man in the face, knocking him unconscious and then stealing money from his wallet, in a  shopping centre car park at Banora Point yesterday.

The man was allegedly approaching people in the car park on Fraser Drive asking them for money around 6.30pm on Monday.

He was declined a number of times before approaching a third person where he became physical, allegedly grabbing a man on the shoulder and demanded his wallet.

The 29-year-old man refused to give his wallet and was then allegedly punched in the face causing him to fall to the ground and lose consciousness.

The man allegedly lent over the unconscious man and stole an amount of money from his wallet before leaving the scene.

A number of witnesses allegedly followed the man and alerted police.

He was arrested not far from the scene and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with aggravated robbery, demand money with menace, and intimidation.

He was refused bail and will appear at Tweed Heads Local Court today (Tuesday).
