A Terranora man is behind bars after breaking an apprehended violence order (AVO) taken out against him by his mother, coming to her home, choking her and threatening to slit her throat.
But Kayne Pevy will be free again in just 10 months.
The 21-year-old pleaded guilty to intimidating or intending physical harm to his mother and contravening the AVO in Tweed Heads Local court yesterday (October 6).
Court records showed that on September 11, Mr Pevy pulled up at his mother’s Kingscliff house in a car driven by another person while she was sitting on the front porch having a drink with a friend.
Despite his mother’s protests, Mr Pevy entered the house and began rummaging around, according to local media.
He then returned to the verandah and placed his hands around his mother’s throat.
After witnesses protested his actions he left the premises but the driver who had dropped him off at the house left without him.
Mr Pevy then returned to the verandah a third time and grabbed his mother by the throat with one hand, pulling her hair with the other ‘until her eyes began to pool with water,’ APN Media has reported.
When witnesses intervened a second time, Mr Pevy ran away, threatening ‘I’m coming back to slit your throat,’ the report said.
