Member for Ballina Don Page has announced a $25,000 grant from the NSW government for safer transport options in the Byron Shire to help young people travel to work and social events.
The Byron Youth Service will establish a STEER (Support, Teamwork, Education, Experience and Reward) Project to raise young people’s awareness of safe transport options and assist them in making safe transport decisions.
‘The STEER Project will include a range of initiatives including community presentations, development of a one-stop-portal for young people and parents to access information on safe transport options, and mentoring by high-profile community members,’ Mr Page said.
The STEER Project will help young people to get to and from employment, festivals and community events safely.
