Wallum showdown unfolds in Brunswick Heads

Around eight people have been arrested so far, since almost fifty police arrived at the Wallum development in Brunswick Heads this morning to escort machinery and other work vehicles on to the site. Police include local officers, members of the NSW Public Order and Riot Squad, and Police Rescue.

Tweed Seagulls Little Athletics

Athletes who achieved a place or time/distance qualification for the State Championships.

Regional Carnival

Sixty-three athletes from Tweed Seagulls Little Athletics competed in the South Coast Regional Championships last weekend at Ashmore. Many athletes achieved personal best performances over both days of competition, with 32 of the clubs athletes placed either within the top 4 places or making qualifying times/distances in their selected events, which qualifies them to go through to state competition which will be held in Cairns later next month.

IN the U16 Girls, Tannaya Twomey set two new records of 14.06 in the 100m dash and 9.34m in the Triple Jump. Kuepper Feehan also set three new records in the U16 Girls events including High jump- 1.53m, long jump – 4.54m, and an Outdoor Pentathlon record of 1235.

Ben Prestwich-Hart set a new record of 40.87m in the U15 Boys Javelin Throw, the old record of 40.57m which has been held since last season.

Dylan Clarke also set two new records in the Boys U16 100m Hurdles; with a time of 15.37, as well as a 36.92m throw in the Javelin.

Ben Kaufman also set new records in the U16 Boys 100m dash in a time of 12.34, Outdoor Pentathlon of 799 and 10:16.57 in the 1500m race walk.

Great results from all who participated during the carnival.

Club Championship News:  In the Semi-Final of the Men’s Open Fours Vic Lewis, Ross Julius, Trevor Hills, Peter Murphy d Brett Harris, Harry Hockey, Ian Taylor, Kevin Liddington and B Raeburn, John Watson, John Reardon Paul Watson d John Brinsmead, Ray Phipps, B Beattie, John Felton. The Final will be played on a date to be advised

Super Challenge: In Round 4 played on February 15, Section 4 Men defeated Paradise Point, winning 4 rinks – 1 and taking the overall 110 shots to 105. The women won 1 rink and lost the other going down by 55 shots to 53. The men are now in 1st position and the ladies are in 7th spot. Section 3 defeated Geebung, winning 3 rinks to 2 and taking the overall score by 105 shots to 99. Kingscliff are now in 3rd place and will meet 2nd placed Kallangur this weekend. Next round will see Section 4 play Logan City at Kingscliff while Section 3 will travel to Kallangur.

Tweed Valley Shield: At the end of Round 4 Kingscliff was on top of the ladder in both divisions. In Round 5 Tugun had 3 – 2 wins in both A Division and B Division.

Social Bowls:  Thursday February 13- Great to see a good roll up of members out on the greens again.   Winners today (lwm) were Pam Thorburn and Lorraine Rice with the Runners-up being Lil Bennett and Jenny Porter.  A very warm welcome to new member, Marjorie Balsch. Valentine Raffles were won by George Moore and Fran Field.  Jan Richards collected the Lucky Numbers prize while Jean Crombie went home the lucky bowler.  Tinger Linger awards this week went to Trish Pollard, Robyn Booth and our very own Narelle Tait. Congrats everyone.
