I am dismayed to hear of possible plans for a Kingscliff (Chinderah) marina. Living on the river, we have to constantly deal with noise and antics from jet-skis, party boats and more.
I often hear them revving their engines to get out of the sea grasses.
They also seem to have no sense of the way noise travels across water, and there is often loud music, drunken antics, shouting and swearing well into the night and early morning, especially on weekends and in holiday season.
All of this is annoying of course, but the gravest concern is that it is all unpoliced.
There is no recourse as there is on land. When I once tried to call someone, I was put through to the Maritime Police in Coffs Harbour. They told me they were the closest ones.
Aside from the devastating impact this marina would have on the river quality and sensitive sea grass beds (did you know we get dolphins this far up?) increasing this unmonitored activity by party boaters is a very upsetting possibility.
It would also completely change the character of this region, and destroy its natural beauty and general peacefulness. I am strongly against increased river traffic in this region.
