Two men were injured in a savage attack with armed intruders at their home at Billinudgel north of Byron Bay on Saturday night.
Police say that around 11.45pm (Saturday), two men wearing balaclavas entered the home in Wilfred Street, Billinudgel, where a struggle ensued between the occupants and the intruders, who were armed with a sledgehammer, shotgun and a knife.
During the melee, one occupant, a 42-year-old man, sustained a deep cut to his back while the other man, aged 35, sustained a cut to his head.
The intruders ran from the house and were last seen being driven away by a third man in a white Toyota Hilux utility.
The injured men sought help from staff and patrons at a hotel nearby, before police and NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived.
The older man was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital then transferred to the Gold Coast Hospital for treatment of the back wound.
The younger man was treated at Tweed Heads Hospital for his head injury.
A crime scene was established at the home and has been examined by forensic experts.
