A funny thing happened as I ventured downtown in Mullumbimby on Saturday night, the main street was closed for a community medieval banquet.
Seated at one long table were the most wonderful cross section of the Mullumbimby community, it was supported by the fireries as traffic support, a number of local eateries provided food and the Mullumbimby High School provided superb service and deserts to die for. The Beetroot Chocolate Cake was a highlight. Even the rain was only a minor inconvenience and added a bit of theatre as the 180 very odd banqueters moved their tables to the newsagency awning for the final course.
It points to an interesting future for the centre of town, when under the council master planning process planned for next year, we might be able to reconfigure the centre of town so that it can more intimately stage many more such banquets and night time events. Bravo to the Chamber of Commerce.
