Police have found the driver of a vehicle who fled the scene after crashing into the Elders Real Estate building in the main street of Bangalow about 4.45am on Saturday.
Tweed/Byron local area command inspector Chad Deegan said officers had established who the driver was and were attempting to speak with him.
As a result of the collision the timber supports for the balcony of the building were damaged.
Police said the driver left the scene prior to police arriving.
Byron Shire Council staff attended to make the area safe for pedestrians and there were interruptions to electricity supply for a short time.
Police said the building was being assessed by engineers as to the structural soundness for repairs.
SES assisted with supporting the balcony pending repairs being made.
Extensive traffic interruption occurred as a result of the crash.
