On Saturday (September 17) police were called out to an unusual rescue after a dog fell over the cliff at Pat Morton Lookout, Lennox Head, onto an inaccessible rock ledge.

About 9.30am (September, 17) Stella the dog was going for a walk along a track at the top of the cliff with her owner.

At a point in time Stella got ‘a little over excited’, according to police and took a wrong turn that resulted in her falling down the headland on to a rock ledge about 10 – 15 metres down.

Stella’s owner contacted 000 and as a result the Ballina SES and the Police Rescue Squad from Lismore were activated.

A short time later, senior constable Stirling abseiled down the cliff and, with a dog harness kindly provided by a member of the public, Stella was lifted and hauled back up the cliff to a very relieved owner.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
