The electoral commission has made more than half a million changes to the voter roll ahead of the close of enrolments for the same-sex marriage postal survey.
Australians have until midnight on Thursday to enrol, with survey papers expected to start hitting mailboxes in mid-September – pending a High Court challenge.
As of Wednesday the Australian Electoral Commission had added 54,545 names to the roll since August 8 and made 577,879 updates.
The survey itself is being run by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Jonathan Palmer, the senior ABS official in charge of the survey, has urged all Australians to ensure they are correctly enrolled ahead of the deadline.
Voters can go online at www.aec.gov.au to enrol, or pick up a form at a post office or AEC office.
