Lismore police say the right to remain silent ‘was taken to an extreme level’ by a 24-year-old Grafton woman they searched at Lismore pub on Thursday.
Police allege that drug detection dog Rufus made a drug indication on the pub patron.
Police tried to speak to the woman but say that she refused to speak.
‘She would nod and shake her head, but would not say a word,’ the police report said.
That is until they asked the woman to open her mouth: inside they found a bag of cannabis.
Police say the woman told them that the cannabis was not hers.
She was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice for possessing a prohibited drug and will appear at Lismore Local Court in November.
