A man appeared in court today charged over a serious assault in Tweed Heads overnight on Friday 17 June.
About 12am (Friday, 17 June, 2022), a 37-year-old man left a hotel on Wharf Street, Tweed Heads and walked to a bus stop outside a nearby shopping centre, planning to wait until transport recommenced.
The man spoke to a second man, already waiting at the bus stop, before the pair were later involved in an altercation.
During the altercation, the tip of the man’s nose was bitten off.
Police were notified and officer from Tweed/Byron Police District attended and separated the pair.
A crime scene was established, and a piece of the man’s nose was located. He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital to undergo reattachment surgery.
The second man, also aged 37, was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent.
He was refused bail and appeared at Tweed Heads Local Court today (Friday 17 June 2022).
