Water quality is being tested regularly by Ballina Shire Council with The Spit showing poor water quality, one site in Shaws Bay showing fair water quality.
All other sampled sites are showing good water quality including Lake Ainsworth, Seven Mile Beach, The Serpentine, Burns Ferry, Lighthouse Beach and Shelly Beach.
‘Rain continues to flush harmful bacteria and debris into our waterways. Swimming is generally not recommended within three days of rainfall in our rivers and enclosed waterways and within 24 hours of rainfall at our open beaches,’ says Ballina Council in a press release.
‘Poor or bad water quality represents bacteria levels that indicate a substantially increased risk of illness to swimmers and fair water quality presents a risk of illness to those with compromised immunity.’
