A seasoned bard

Guy Kachel had an idyllic entry to the world of music. Born in Tamworth, he was raised on the banks of the Peel River. The landscape was a fertile ground for his imagination. Seeing this rustic world change, as Tamworth developed into an inland city and friends grew to sometimes troubled adulthoods, provided insights for the artistry that later powered his career as a performer.

Bay FM community radio celebrates digital upgrade

Volunteers from Byron and across the Northern Rivers celebrated nearly $100,000 worth of new studio equipment at Bay FM Community Radio station on the weekend.

Many Northern Rivers residents are still struggling on the aftermath so every bit of support is good news – Lismore City Council’s Flood Appeal Committee has opened the second and final round of Flood Appeal grants.

The grants are for residents who lost their homes and belongings owing to the February natural disaster and applications close on 30 September at 4pm.

The Lismore City Council Flood Appeal raised slightly more than $1.6 million. Under Round One, $1 million was distributed with each eligible resident receiving a $650 grant. Eligible residents in Round Two will receive the same amount of $650.

If any funds are remaining they will be equally distributed across eligible residents from both rounds.

A safety net

The Flood Appeal Committee decided to distribute the grants in two rounds to create a safety net for those who could not make the application deadline for Round One.

Council is currently processing Round One grants and expects to start distributing funds to nominated bank accounts from the week beginning Monday, 5 September.

Those who have already received notification that they will receive a Round One grant are not eligible to apply under Round Two.

There are some changes to submitting a Round Two application, compared with the Round One.

Applications submitted online

All Round Two applications must be submitted online. If you need assistance, please call Council on 6625 0500.

All applicants will receive a confirmation email that their application has been successfully lodged. This is not confirmation that you are eligible for a Flood Appeal grant.

Who is Eligible?

  • Applications are only open to residents of Lismore LGA
  • Residents who occupied a personal residence in the flood inundation zone and suffered property damage as a result of the February natural disaster
  • Only one application per residence is permitted
  • Residents who did not receive a confirmation email in Round One.

Applications must be submitted online at: www.lismore.nsw.gov.au.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Same old same old !
Isn’t it a great thing that any outside the ” LGA ” need not apply ?
I would have thought thousands outside the ” LGA ” were, and are, equally effected by the flood and I am sure those who donated were thinking of the victims, not just the few designated by some fool on the council, as being worthy of consideration.
It is my suggestion that next time donations should be directed to the Flood Victims Appeal and definitely not the “The Lismore City Council Flood Appeal “.
    Cheers, G”)
