The Tweed community will reflect, respect and celebrate what it means to be part of the unfolding national story on Australia Day.
The Tweed Shire Australia Day Awards, to be held in Murwillumbah on Thursday 26 January, will recognise outstanding achievements by members of the community.
This will be followed by a citizenship ceremony which will see 35 residents from 17 countries – from as far afield as Finland, India and Brazil – become Australian citizens.
Tumbulgum – free, family fun day
The Tumbulgum community are coming together at the Rangers Sports Club, Bawden Street from 8am. Set up by the Tumbulgum Community Association you are invited to come together, relax, reflect, and ‘celebrate what is great about our village’.
There will be a traditional Aussie BBQ Breakfast, music, local awards, a children’s craft session. And displays of children’s art and village photographs.
They look forward to fun games of tennis or croquet and encourage everyone to bring along your favourite morning tea to share while relaxing in the shade.
The final event will be the traditional Cricket Match – Village People v. North Tumbulgum Cavaliers.
Tyalgum
From 9.30am at the Tyalgum Community Hall on Coolman Street there will be a Flag Raising, a Welcome, an Acknowledgement of Country and the National Anthem. This will be followed by the Decorated Bike Parade with bikes to muster on the Hall green at 9.45am.
The Tyalgum Australia Day Community Awards will take place inside the hall from 10am and be followed by morning tea and raffles at 11am.
