Last week saw two events supporting a ceasefire in Gaza take place at the Nimbin Bush Theatre and Coorabell Hall held by the Northern Rivers Friends of Palestine.

Mandy Nolan, Federal candidate for the Greens, who attended the events said that ‘The Northern Rivers has a rich history of opposing war, and we stand on the shoulders of decades of peace activism.’

The event at the Nimbin Bush Theatre was an Indigenous Palestinian and intertribal unity celebration and fundraiser.

Subhi Awad adds, ‘We bear witness to modern-day unrelenting atrocities and deliberate famine in Gaza; this must stop now.’

The solidarity events provided a musical and visual representation of the group’s commitment to raising awareness about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

‘We must keep showing up and continue to stand for a Ceasefire and a just peace,’ said Sue Higginson, NSW Green MP.

    • How can they? Israel keeps killing the hostages, as per their ‘Hannibal Doctrine’. The PLO basically had the two-state solution in the bag, so Israel funded Hamas to wreck it by sowing disunity. Divide and rule. Israel wants all the land too. The Israelis simply know that people in the West often mistake them for White Christians, and presume they share the same values and moral. They don’t. They are as foreign as the Muslims. Two groups of non-Whites killing each other for reasons we find repugnant, is hardly a new phenomenon. That’s why you don’t get details news about Africa and what goes on there. You would demand we intervene, until eventually, we would end up running their countries again. Just accept they are different to you, and that you don’t want that around you and yours. They find our normal behaviour repugnant also, but we are rich so, you know.

      • …so you know – that the same Hamas’s philosophy of violent Jihad is a curse in every country where it is followed, and there will be more deaths in the west and internally between Muslims, from this philosophy. “Israel wants all the land” – the land is the birthplace of the Jewish people, like Mecca is for Muslims, except this Jewish country is only now about 400 kms long and 200kms wide ( prior to taking the disputed territory of the West Bank from Jordan , Israel was about 60 km wide at its narrow waist). Israel didnt incorporate Gaza or the West Bank when it originally reestablished the Jewish state – they left them under the control of Egypt ( Gaza) and Jordan ( West Bank). Hamas is an off shoot created by the Muslim Brotherhood now dominantly funded by Iran (who been busy this week by directly attacking Iran, Iraq and Syria, and funded attacks by Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis ) . Yes Israel did send money (and concrete and water pipes and..) to Hamas, as Hamas was the elected Local Government of Gaza since Isreal kept Gaza after taking it in the war where all surrounding countries tried (again) to takeover the land ( but not to takeover the land for a Palestinian state, but to add it onto theirs – eg Jordan wanted to incorporate a land access to the sea).

        • Read your Torah. Yahew did say that if the Hebrews killed off the Canaanites from the land of Canaan, the Canaanites’ land would become theirs forever. That’s why it is called ‘The promised land’.
And so the systematic destruction of all housing and infrastructure is leaving Gaza uninhabitable for the Palistinians. However, pre-sales of the beach-front land to people of Jewish descent has been on going for months, as have the deals with Western (White) countries for these ‘Refugees from the Middle East’, to be relocated here. If Israel is not stopped, who do you think your new neighbours will be John?

  1. As our foreign affairs minister stated “ a ceasefire is not one sided but needs both sides for it to happen”. Penny Wong must be doing something right as both sides have attacked her trip to the Middle East.

  2. I don’t get it you oppose War OK , so why not condemn Hamas for starting a war on 7/10 ,please save me from all the ‘oh it started 75 years ago looney stuff ‘ up until the 7/10 there was a a truce or ceasefire between Hamas and the IDf , Hamas clearly broke the truce or ceasefire nothing to do about what happened 75 years ago Hamas broke the truce on 7/10 and just like the Japs at Pearl harbour with their surprise attack started a war .You can not start a war then when you start loosing cry like babies to the International community to come and save us . Surely those Gazans who celebrated and cheered on learning that their Fathers , sons and brothers had just staged a massive surprise attack with their War crime atrocities on 7/10 surely they must have considered the consequences that the Israelis would be majorly , majorly Pissed off that Muslim Gazan Men had just mass raped jewish young girls and mothers , surely these Gazans must have been prepared to loose a lot of lives over this . Why would Israel agree to a ceasefire now whilst Gazans still hold hostages mainly women and children , still firing Rockets as of today , does this make sense to anyone .Give back all Hostages stop rockets then ask for a ceasefire, Grow Up !

    • If you are kidnapping and shooting kids, and a bunch of other stuff they won’t let me report on here, you’re not technically engaging in warfare per se, but you kind of are. The trick is to punch someone where no one is looking, then step out into the open so that when they hit you back, you can claim they attacked you unprovoked. Then you can get away with stabbing them. Wait until everything quietens back down again. Repeat. You need to look into what happens when the world’s attention is not laser focused on them.

  3. Exactly Brian, too hard for the greens to understand. I know, Mandy will fix it, arrange another protest, I am sure Hamas is tuned into their oh so great global political and humanitarian authority. Genocide happening in Palestine ?, Please give us a break green’s. Just go do what you are good at like, Um, Um, Um, you know, nothing.

    • If you take random people at gun point, particularly women and children, cage them for years, never charge them with anything, never tell their families what happened to them, and treat them rather ‘poorly’, does that count as hostages? Israel has thousands of them, but they call them ‘prisoners’. So you should be saying, ‘Free the prisoners’. I think the general agreement requires Israel to release their ‘prisoners’ at the same time.

  4. It is so “enlightening” to see how easily people can become slaves to our yk who’s propaganda like a human trains their dog. You can’t see what goes on right in front of ya. It’s not that hard to educate one’s self about any matte specially when we have the world at our fingertips. To the people above I won’t mention the 75 years as it is now 76 years and that I WILL mention. You speak of a truce when every day since before the 7/10 when Palestinians of all ages kids to elderly were taken hostage and tortured, murdered and slaughtered, homes bulldozed, water -electricity- and food cut off, the daily terrorising of school kids, stealing of property, vandalising cemeteries, no right of freedom, no right of medical treatment, and list goes on. So, Just because you don’t or have never seen these things pop up on the new or on your feed doesn’t mean those things did not take place. And by the way it has been proven in the news that the majority of civilians killed on 7/10 was by the IDF which the IDF actually admitted and the statement of the raping of young women and children was withdrawn and confirmed a lie. So yes we will continue protest and spread the news of the 76 years of genocide against the Palestinians.

    • 75 years since Palestinian Arabs have not accepted the umpires decision or 1948 UN Resolution 181 one state for the Arabs one state for the Jews if the Palestinians would have accepted the original UN Resolution like Indian and Pakistan did one year before the Palestinian Arabs would have had their own state albeit a failed state like all
      The other Arab states

Can you blame the Israelis can you blame the Egyptians for erecting a huge wall between Egypt and Gaza to keep the troublesome Gazans out can you blame the Jordanians for kicking Arafat and Palestinians out in September-1970 can you blame the Lebanese for keeping Palestinians in camped outside Beirut refusing them citizenship do you blame all the other Arab countries not wanting to help the troublesome Gazans
Are you getting a SENCE here of what the poor Israelis have to deal with .
I think gazans now regret their war and must be thinking was it all worth it ?

      • Why would they? They are winning. And given everything that gets done to them in ‘peace time’, the things the kosher media doesn’t bother reporting, you can’t find it surprising they try to fight back periodically. But by all means, tell that battered wife not to hit him back, or she is to blame for the, now noisy, domestic violence that is now loud enough for the neighbours to notice. Yeah, she’s a nut-ball too, both of them are, but if he kicks her out, your household is the only one stupid enough to take in endless ‘refugees’, so she is going to be your bunk mate. Good luck.

  5. Most comments here are pretty ordinary.

All I hear is. “Oh yeh, well that’s because xxxx did this or that last week, year, decade, century”

    Fark!

What about the kids? They don’t care about what happened a month or 75 years ago.

Our biases and behaviour inflect innocent children.

Kids just want to play with each other, they don’t care about race, religion or the past….until they learn otherwise from us.

If the kids took charge, there might be a peace resolution. So far most adults on either side are acting like spoilt children!

  6. Steve can you explain why the Gazans have 1. not-simply returned the hostages mostly women and children

2.not stoped their daily rocket attacks mostly fired from civilian areas reason so many civilian deaths

Is it not logical that if they had done this on day one very few casualties would have occurred
Can you please explain why the same people calling fir a ceasefire are not calling for these 2 actions in order for there to be a ceasefire
    I am puzzled?

  7. Yeh, lets have a cease fire in Gaza, it will give the murderous raping animals of Hamas a break to re-group and plan for their next murderous raping campaign. Wake up you lot.
