Every time I hear on the news of the cyclones and floods in Queensland I think of the green convoy to the Adani coal mine a few years ago and the reception they received from the Queensland population.

Queenslanders were determined to dig up all the coal they could and either burn it or sell it to other people to burn. In either case the coal would be transformed into carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and would worsen global warming. The Queenslanders regarded that outcome as some form of green hoax and were very antagonistic to the green convoy.

Perhaps they might think again after their experience of the recent cyclones and floods. I wonder what they might have to experience to be convinced that the earth is not flat.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. I think you reap what you sow , remember QLD gave us the last liberal government by way of votes for the LNP ,
they also gave us Pauline Hanson , and now the wonderful Mr Potato Head , leader of the opposition,
Remember an average or 70% ( SEQ ) and up to 90% of voters in far north QLD rejected the voice ,

It is no surprise they think that climate change is a hoax . ( not all but most QLD ‘ers )
They had a cyclone arrive on Australia day up there , they must have thought it was a gift from the original custodians of this land.
Warmer sea surface temps are going to increase the risk of more cyclones , that’s a fact .

I remember a doctor once said in Sydney during the recent pandemic , Unfortunately there is no vaccine again stupidity .!!!
So go on all the QLD ‘ ers keep driving you oversize utes and large SUV’s and 4WD’s ,. and let the climate problems be a hand me down gift for your kids and grandkids !

We need to cut off QLD from Australia and tow it offshore 5000kms , they are embarrassing Australia too much !

    • On the abomination that is the Adani Carmichael Coalmine issue.
It wasn’t just QLDers determined to dig up all the coal, it was all made possible by the doing of our inglorious LabLibNat Fossil Fuel Cartel.
Towing QLD away is only half the issue, the LabLibNat Fossil Fuel Cartel needs to be towed as well.

  2. Oh yes blame the Queenslanders for your smokey underserviced Subaru. . Nothing like the scapegoat to relieve you from the pressure of having to look at yourself

  3. Michael, really?. The lefty green convoy headed by the green god Bob Brown received the reception in every town that they deserved. Maybe you can tell me?, no other green warriors can, what industry will replace the revenue earned from coal, gas and oil when the green lunacy eventually stops it?. Who and how will the hospitals, police, public servants, highways, etc: be funded without coal, gas, oil?. Do you know?. Have you thought about it between protests?. Ask Mandy, the standup candidate, she should know. I suspect not one soul has the answer as there is not one. Maybe you can tell me how much revenue windmills and solar will contribute to our economy?, do tell. I can tell you one thing for sure, there are thousands of acres of farm land, scrub being pillaged in the name of the pretendy renewables, but nothing to see here says Tanya, I’ll just turn my back so you can continue on with your raping of our country. What a mob of richard craniums..

    • Jesus gregrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, vitriol again. Raping the country? Mines don’t do that do they? You need to check out how farming coexists with solar and wind farming, not listen to the Joyce/ Littleproud lies. Then you will repeat how off shore wind farms endanger whales. Look my opinion of that convoy lead to another 3 years of useless, do nothing coalition government which you seem so comfortable with. Maybe you should check out how coal seam gas around cavanans electorate looks: now that is raping and poisoning the country. Next I suppose your volunteering for a nuclear power station near you or a waste storage facility?

    • Greggy, look around the world, decarbonisation is happening and its here to stay.
Australia not smart enough to pivot to the Green Economy, well with thinking like yours that sort of makes sense.
Look around the world at the cascading climate catastrophies. We / Australia keep getting our share of it as well, being fuelled by incessant fossil fuel burning.
On one thing you right though, with your FF4Ever, only a richard cranium would stay that course and you in very good company with the LabLibNat Fossil Fuel Cartel leading from the front.

  4. “ Australia not smart enough to pivot to the Green Economy” I’ve told you before Joachim, do homework before gobbling off.

    • Lizardbreath, thanks for the compliment.
I’ll cut you some slack here, your post came in before yesterday’s (14/2/24 ) National Press Club address by Professors, Ross Garnaut and Rod Sims.
Get yourself on ABC Iview, dial up yesterday’s NPC address, do some of your homework boning up on ‘Green Economy’.

      • You do realise the extent of this government’s investment in and promotion of the switch to renewables? And staring down the Nationals in the process. You do realise there are some practical impediments to going much faster?

        I didn’t think so

        • Lizardbreath, the cascading climate catastrophies wait for no one.
Liberal-lite Labor is doing the bare minimum on climate.
It doesn’t cut it when Labor ignores the science and keeps approving Big New Fossil Fuel projects and has the hide to throw $’sbillions of taxpayer hard earned onto the continuing fossil fuelled climate disaster.

          • What are these ‘climate catastrophies’ you are speaking of? If you mean weather, even the IPCC had to admit that extreme weather events have not increased in intensity nor frequency from 100 years ago. Weather reporting and hype, on the other hand, are at all-time highs.

  5. Joachy, guru of everything green and knower of all, please detail the Adani mine abomination. What do you know that no one else knows?. Are you sure you are not having lefty green dreams and waking up to believe them?….

  6. Joachy, guru of everything green and knower of all, look around the world, conservative governments are clawing back wins from lefty socialist governments, how cool is that?. Farmers in Europe and the Netherlands are protesting against the socialist’s that are trying to shut down the rural industries, the world is finally waking up to your lefty green lunacy. Unfortunately we are always a few years behind, we don’t have that long.
