A nearly nude rally was held on Saturday at the formerly clothes-optional beach at Tyagarah as naturists gathered to make their voices heard.
Naturist, Rohan Anderson, told The Echo that a good day was had by all at the peaceful protest. ‘We were not allowed to get totally naked but had fun with covering up the bare essentials despite the obvious sadness about losing the clothes-optional spot.’
Mr Anderson said NSW police attended at the start in response to complaints by certain residents about the protest happening, but they didn’t find anything illegal going on.
‘Hopefully, the incoming council will find the skinny-dippers a home soon, as National Parks are not at all interested in negotiation.
‘Byron Bay really needs to either designate a beach, or parts of multiple beaches, or just be the open-minded place it is and legalise nudity within the shire so nudists can spread out – within reason.’
