A light plane crash west of Yamba on Sunday killed the pilot and left his passenger with serious injuries, authorities say.
Emergency services responded to the crash on Palmers Island around 11.20am Sunday.
Police say the pilot died at the scene and while the body was yet to be formally identified, it was believed to be that of a man aged in his 60s.
The other occupant was a man believed to be aged in his 30s.
Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew say their critical care medical team treated him for head, spinal and arm injuries before flying him to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Police investigations are ongoing.
