The Mullumbimby Residents Association (MRA) asked a question at Byron Shire Council’s (BSC) meeting on 17 September: ‘Where are the studies that Landcom refers to, showing that 57 Station Street was the best site for Council’s affordable housing over its car parks?’.
Councillor Lyon took it on himself to answer the question but did not answer the question. He deflected to other things and then later that day moved an ‘urgency motion’ to shift the 57 Station Street project to another site.
The MRA has been asking for this for almost two years.
The question now is: ‘Will Council still answer MRA’s original question and produce the studies?’.
If not, then read between the lines – there were no studies and 57 Station Street was a captain’s pick, by then-mayor Cr Lyon.
In that case, thanks captain, for all the anguish and the five years wasted to produce no housing. How many $100,000s of staff and Landcom time has been wasted? Plus the public’s time. An apology is overdue.
